Founded in 1910, the Greater Rochester Association REALTORS® (GRAR) has remained true to its mission of providing resources, promoting professionalism, advancing real property rights, and positioning its members for success. Membership demonstrates your commitment to be a real estate professional. GRAR will provide access to a multitude of programs and services that will enhance your career and business.
Membership also includes membership in the New York State Association of REALTORS® (NYSAR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). NAR represents more than 1.2 million REALTORS® who engage in all aspects of the real estate industry, making it one of the largest and most influential professional trade organizations in the country.
You may participate in the Genesee Region Real Estate Information Service (GENRIS), a wholly subsidiary of GRAR. The New York State Alliance of MLSs (NYSAM) was formed with Multiple Listing Services (MLS) in Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse to create one single MLS database in 2010. As a result, the public has greater accessibility and increased exposure to real estate listings. The move also provides the combined 8,000 participants with the most comprehensive database and state-of-the-art technological capacity to enhance their ability to better serve clients and customers.
GRAR membership also provides:
- A Member Services Department that is responsible for maintaining member records, answering questions concerning dues and fees, the MLS, forms, and REALTOR® sales tools. The department also administers the keycard and lockbox system.
- Cost-effective benefits and discounts to area products and services through the Regional Area & Recreation & Employee Services Association (RARES).
- A formal grievance process that assists members and the public in handling disputes of alleged violations of the Code of Ethics, which imposes duties by law or regulation. The Code applies only to real estate professionals who choose to become REALTORS®. Each year, members of the Association volunteer their time to work on the Professional Standards and Grievance Committees, which are responsible for enforcing the Code of Ethics. GRAR staff acts as intermediaries between members of the public and REALTORS® and assist in the filing and pursuit of a written complaint.
- Access to Instanet Forms, which provides a process to complete and store contracts online. This is a fantastic service for REALTORS® dealing with contracts and is free to GRAR REALTOR® members. There is a one-time fee for participants who wish to add their own company forms.
- A Legislative and Government Affairs program that is responsible for the Association’s legislative and public affairs activities. The director of government affairs serves as the local lobbyist for organized real estate on the state and local levels and interacts with elected officials on the local, state and federal levels. The preservation and protection of private property rights are the primary focus, along with ensuring the right of real estate professionals to do business.
- A comprehensive Marketing and Public Relations program developed specifically to promote, strengthen, and support the local real estate industry and the REALTOR® brand. This is accomplished through a television, and print advertising campaign and on-going public relations activities that include: the development and distribution of press releases, feature stories, and interaction with local reporters, TV anchors, and editors.
- An Education program that offers a wide-range of professional development and training opportunities. This includes courses required for real estate and appraisal continuing education credit, and workshops that are designed to develop and enhance the real estate professional’s skills and knowledge.
- An Events program that provides members with a wide-variety of networking, social, and educational opportunities to help keep members in touch with peers, industry and GRAR resources. This includes events such as: the REALTORS® Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament, Agent’s Fair, GRAR/Women’s Council of REALTORS® Awards, Sales Master Awards Appreciation Reception, Holiday Gala, REALTOR® Connection events, & Young Professionals networking events.
